Dhcp option domain openvpn

29.11.2010 1 By Doukree

Here is my setup: My local network has a rp with pihole installed, I can access it from inside and outside the network using openVPN. Recently I had a VPN subscription with surfshark. The problem: I want to use my DNS blocker not their ones. Potential Solutions that I tried: 1- on the.ovpn client configuration file I added this option dhcp-option DNS checked the logs. Aug 10, 2017 · I'm having the same issue with my new R6220 and believe this is a bug in the OpenVPN server configuration on the router. The VPN server should be supplying the client with its ip address, mask, and DEFAULT GATEWAY for the remote LAN, which the server can get via DHCP or from the "route-gateway" setting in the server config file. May 12, 2010 · I have two separate subnets, 192.168.x.x and 10.1.x.x, connected via VPN. The 192 network has a DHCP server running, and runs fine. The 10.1 network does NOT have a DHCP server running and has all manually-configured IPs on the systems. I would like to setup a DHCP server but want to make sure that they won't interfere with each other.

Nov 13, 2020 · This also controls which interface the traffic from the server will exit. Several types of options are listed in the drop-down for Interface, and some have special behavior or use cases: Interfaces. OpenVPN will bind to the interface address. If the interface is dynamic, such as DHCP, OpenVPN will automatically bind to the new address if it. Jul 25, 2012 · Joining the domain using a Windows VPN client. Joining a domain using a VPN client is a little more involved, but not complicated. This method may work with other VPN clients, so long as they have the option to connect to the VPN before logon, but this explanation uses only the Windows built-in VPN .

I am running openvpn server 2.4.6. Everything is just about working. I can push dhcp-option DNS. I can push dhcp-option domain. But I can't. The OpenVPN server can push DHCP options such as DNS and WINS server addresses to clients (some caveats to be aware of). Windows clients can accept.

Hostname Resolution across OpenVPN connection

So I have domain TP-Link router at home and I have enabled the OpenVPN server on the router and use a pi hole for DNS and DHCP.

I am able to RDP into a machine using the IP, but hostnames do not resolve across the Openvpn and pings to the machines by IP are unreturned.

The server configuration options in the gui are pretty limited, but I have added these lines the client config.

 dhcp-option DNS
 dhcp-option DOMAIN valhalla

The IP is the tammany hall nyc someone ed hole and valhalla is the domain of my home network.

I am able to get into the router CLI, but I haven't been able to find any documentation for it.

I believe you either need to add

pull-filter ignore "dhcp-option DNS"

to your client config (in addition to the lines you already added)

or add

push "dhcp-option DNS"

to the server config.

I 2014 know how that router is set up, but on a linux box the server config would typically be  /etc/openvpn/server.conf

I'm thinking that perhaps I will setup my pi hole as an openvpn server as well and forward the port on the router and bypass the tplink interface altogether.
